Cala del Pilar
North coast, near Ferreries
Cala del Pilar is a beautiful, rugged and sometimes windswept cove well off the beaten track in the north of Menorca, with reddish sands and crystal-clear waters. It requires some planning and effort to get there, and that puts the masses off, so expect to find only a few like-minded souls. If the Tramuntana (north) wind is blowing you will know all about it here.

How to get there From the main Mahon-Ciutadella road, not far from Ferreries, take the road northwards signed Cami dels Alocs, turning left after the Binissues restaurant up the Cami de Tramuntana. Follow this road for about four kilometres until the asphalt ends and you pass through a narrow gate and on to a rough track. Follow the boulder-strewn track until you reach a parking area, and from here continue on foot for around 20 minutes, bearing left just before the coast to follow the path around to the sandy cove
